Waterborne Polyurethane for Glossy Floor Coatings

Waterborne Polyurethane was such difficult term for me when I wasn’t aware about this term. But now when I am familiar with it, it seems exciting. Even Polyurethane dispersion too can be understood easily when you are aware this term.

The term Polyurethane coatings are widely used as topcoats for the protection of wind turbine towers and blades. Moreover, the Polyurethane chemistry can be manipulated to provide low temperature and in curing characteristics too it can be used. Polyurethane includes benefits such as it works well with thick film applications, retains good workability of the sealant and has more beneficial points along with it.

When the above mentioned characteristics are provided they make the tower sections shipped within a few hours and at that only meantime long term coating performance requirements are provided which is able to meet International standard globally. The chemistry is highly versatile, with aromatic and aliphatic types offering the formulator a range of properties to meet differing performance requirements.

These Polyurethane dispersions are designed to facilitate the formulation of high performance coatings, adhesives and inks. They work well with waterborne polyurethane and in dispersion method too they are compatible.  It reacts fully and therefore can be formulated into low VOC coatings with low toxicity ratings which is helpful in giving your floor a new glossy look.

Make Best Use Of Polyurethane Coatings

My searching habit led me to a new term that was completely out of my mind's dictionary. At first it was difficult for me to grasp this term. But slowly when I read about its features, a sense of excitement aroused inside me which led me to know this term clearly in a  concise manner. Guys! Now I think that you are well aware of my habit. Whenever I came across new term some feelings arouse inside me which let me to jot it down. So, here comes this new term for you too. Come let's gel up with it.

The term Polyurethane coatings are widely used as topcoats for the protection of wind turbine towers and blades and here the polyurethane chemistry can be manipulated to provide low temperature and curing characteristics. When these characteristics are provided they make the tower sections shipped within a few hours and at the same time long term coating performance requirements are provided too which Internationally meets  global standards. Discover something more on polyurethane dispersion

Did you know that polyurethane dispersion was discovered by world-known scientist Otto Bayer. In its earlier days, there were many doubts of his ideas of mixing various chemical substances and procuring dry foam materials. However, the revelation of polyurethane dispersion by Bayer has changed the people’s look towards him. He was the person who discovered the basic process of diisocyanate polyaddition. Today’s chemical industry owe a real tribute to him for his amazing chemical inventions.

There are large numbers of applications of polyurethane dispersion. Do you know all types of foams are manufactured from polyurethane? Flexible foam is used in upholstery; rigid foams are placed inside the walls of refrigerators and freezers. Flexible and semi-flexible foams are also used in manufacturing car seats, head rests and arm rests.

The reason why polyurethane dispersion is of great use in today’s industry is that it is the most appropriate and safest replacement for solvent based coatings because they are known for their environment friendly property. Another advantage is that they come in a wide range of hardness and solid content. Their zero to low volatile organic content enables their formulation into a compliant coating for many different substrates. Polyurethane dispersions are highly reactive polyureas of small and discrete polymer particles ranging from 0.01-5.0 microns in a continuous water phase.

Use epoxy curing agent for tough and durable polymers

Why epoxy curing agents are used worldwide? The reason because they are found to emulsify and harden both liquid and solid epoxy resins which eventually delivers tough and durable polymers. You can see numerous applications where these agents bring immense change including concrete polymers/sealers, industrial & decorative concrete floor coatings, wall coatings, high build self-leveling floor coatings, epoxy modified cements, and anti-corrosive primers.

Now you can easily search for the manufactures as a large number of companies are involved into manufacturing these epoxy curing agents and waterborne polyurethane dispersions. The demand for epoxy curing agent arises from businesses involved in coatings, sealants, elastomers, and adhesives. However, it is extremely important to conduct a detailed research before giving purchase order to a particular company. You can refer to internet for your research as this medium is not only cheap but effective as well.

This agent is high in demand due to its outstanding qualities in the fields of adhesion, abrasion, chemical resistance, flexibility, and toughness. An important thing to remember is that poxy curing agents are generally classified by the excellent resistance to abrasion and also high mechanical resistance. This is another reason why the demand for these materials is so high.

Get superior moisture protection with moisture scavengers

When it comes to determine the biggest threats affecting the performance of coatings and sealants, moisture occurs at top with many issues. This is why moisture has an inherent property to react with isocyanate for the production of gaseous carbon dioxide which in turn results into bubbling, pinholing, and many other issues. This moisture impurity can start either from within the formulation or as result of increased atmospheric humidity. It is universally known fact that solvents may contain some traces of water which can sometimes lead to the dispersion of urea crystals.

The good things is that the evolution of moisture scavengers has made things easy and they play a major role in bringing down the moisture contamination drastically. They are quick reactant and hydrolyze on exposure to moisture. It also eliminates CO2 bubbles and pinholes in two-component systems and reduces glossing an hazing under extreme humidity application conditions.

Moisture scavengers are widely used for the removal of water from polyols in two component polyurethanes along with the removal of water from solvents, plasticisers, and pigment pastes. It prevents gassing and gelling in single component systems. Incorez is a global leader in oxazolidine chemistry, manufacturing a diverse range of products marketed under the Incozol® umbrella.

Moisture Scavengers – For an effective protection again moisture

Moisture is known to be the biggest threat for the failure or loss of performance in coatings and sealants. It has an inherent property to react with isocyanate for the production of gaseous carbon dioxide this in turn exhibits bubbling, pinholing and other issues. There are basically two reasons for the onset of moisture. This moisture contamination can induce either from within the formulation or as result of increased atmospheric humidity. It is globally known that solvents may contain some traces of water which can sometimes lead to the dispersion of urea crystals.

However, the introduction of moisture scavengers has made things easy it is meant to bring down the moisture contamination considerably. They are fast reacting and hydrolyze on exposure to moisture. It also eliminates Co2 bubbles and pinholes in two-component systems and minimizes down glossing and hazing under high humidity application conditions.

Moisture scavengers are heavily used for the removal of water from polyols in two component polyurethanes as well as the removal of water from solvents, plasticisers, and pigment pastes. It prevents gassing and gelling in single component systems. Incorez is a global leader in oxazolidine chemistry, manufacturing a diverse range of products marketed under the Incozol® umbrella.

Polyurethane Prepolymers – Meant for excellent solvents resistance

A large number of industries make the use of polyurethane prepolymers because of their amazing chemical resistance along with solvents and graffiti. The only issue with these prepolymers is their high cost. It restricts their usage and used only in certain applications. They are used in the production of sealants, expansion joints, and adhesives. For more diverse use, they are used on the interior walls of hospitals, schools, and other public buildings.

In short, polyurethane prepolymers are used in those applications that require a great resistance against chemicals and solvents. There are certain advantages of using these agents such as they show amazing weather stability and colorfastness. The advent of these prepolymers has brought great advantage to adhesive and sealant formulators. The formulators can now expect optimum efficiency and enhanced performance benefits, and this is the major reason why these products are high in demand all over the world. Nowadays, there are large numbers of companies involved into the manufacturing of these polyurethane prepolymers and waterborne epoxy agents.

Don’t forget to do a detailed research on polyurethane prepolymers that will help you locating the most perfect manufacturer/supplier for your application. The more dedication you will show in your research, the better results you will get in terms of great chemical resistance and long lasting
